Before discussing about what is Database? I would like to explain What is Data?

Data: is a set of useful information

Data is further divided into 3 categories.

  1. Structured data → Spread Sheets, Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server …
  2. Semi-Structured data → JSON, XML
  3. Unstructured data → Flat Files (Word Doc, PDF, Text files), Images, Audio and Video Files
Structured Data
Semi-Structured Data
Unstructured Data (Flat Files and Audio & Video)

What is Database?

In general, “Database is a set of useful information and related data together”

For example, Books, Documents, Audio and Video files etc; consider as a Database.

You might ask me, how books, documents, audio & videos can be a Database?

If you can imagine life before 20 decades ago, government offices, grocery stores or any other stores use books to store information. That information they check whenever required and calculate sales, profit from the book.

Recent times, Technology evolved and we store everything in computer and also using software to calculate sales, profit with one click.

Consider a crime happened in an apartment, first police checks the CC camera footage for clues and log book entry at security office etc;

You can consider all these as database since Database can be any form.

Database can be any form

If you want me to speak technically,

“Database is a set of tables where the data stored in the form of rows and columns”

For example: Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL SERVER, MongoDB …

Next, We’re going to discuss about Oracle Database!! https://medium.com/@pk0411/what-is-oracle-database-9e9ef634b769
